Areas of Human Endeavor
Survival:
Persons with damage to this area can be expected to become dangerously passive and have a tendency to hoard money. They can become obsessed with material things and suspicious of people who they perceive as a threat. Most prisoner and street kids have a very high level of survival skills.
An individual who has had extensive damage in the area of acceptance can be expected to have difficulty in forming meaningful relationships. Finding acceptance is particular to young children and teens. Many teens have their first experience with sex, smoking, drinking and drugs in order to be one of the group.
Damage in the area of pleasure may find themselves wrestling with a sexual escape, food or tobacco. When damage is incurred in proper areas of pleasure a person may well turn to unhealthy false pleasures.
Persons with damage in the area of power may become overbearing or controlling. Everyone wants power over their own lives. When deprived of this they will turn to attempting to regain their power at the expense of others.
If it involves the area of freedom they may have a problem with uncontrolled anger, gossip or problems in the workplace. The initial reaction of a child told “no” to a desired activity or thing will often be expressed as anger.
The real need is for all involved, no matter what the escape behavior may be, to learn from the Bible how to properly take the pain away and help others in the process.
Persons truly interested in remove emotional pain will become familiar with the areas in which they are strong and they will have the courage to discover the areas in which they have been consistently hurt beyond their skill level to process. It is not to be a blame search, for that is never productive, but it is important to know the area or areas where they buildup of emotional pain is likely to cause a problem.
