THE PRICE
I’m sitting here and it makes a man wonder why?
It’s a price you pay if you want to get high.
When I was a young man, I didn’t stop to think,
Like a lot of my friends I wanted to drink
Later came drugs and I thought I was cool,
I didn’t know then, but I was being a fool.
I’ve spent my life getting high, from then until now,
I’m still alive but I don’t know how.
There have been many times when I have given up hope,
The things that I craved were whisky and dope.
Getting high was my way of escaping my pain,
Living this life almost drove me insane.
I really wanted to quit and for awhile I tried,
I went as far as to try suicide.
This manner of living has gone to my head,
More than once I could have ended up dead.
Now my life is in scrambles with no where to turn,
There have been some hard lessons I’ve had to learn.
I hope that I’m finished with dope and booze,
For if I continue to use, I’ll continue to loose.
This last verse is for the kids who want to live free,
Don’t start getting high and end up like me.
If your friends want to use, just let them go,
They aren’t really your friends, so just tell then NO.
Because if you don’t, you’ll pay the price,
So lets all get along and just give advice.
To those who care, just show your love,
Trust and believe in the Higher Power Above.
