Articles by Ron Wilkins - Depression Minimize

Depression

Announced by a past Surgeon General to be our nation’s number three health problem, depression is a multibillion dollar industry because it involves millions of people. Depression can be a predominate issue in the lives of people from every social strata; back alleys to mansions on hilltops.

There are two types of depression: depression that is caused by some physical disorder and emotional depression. Physical depression can be successfully medicated, emotional depression cannot. Attempts to medicate emotional depression are common but are very likely to make matters worse. Emotional depression is self induced. Emotional depression is anger turned inward. It is the result of flawed thinking brought on by the subconscious use of thinking errors such as blame, name calling or jumping to unpleasant conclusions before taking the time to gather all the necessary facts.

Temporary medications can be helpful in allowing a student to become calm enough to be trained to remove emotional pain. Great care should be taken in the use of medication. Students of emotional pain training should work very closely with a physician of confidence.

Getting rid of depression without medication is not only possible, it is a great way to enjoy an active, stress free life. God has not called us into fear and doubt, but to strength and power. Depression breeds fear and fear paralyzes the reasoning process. Learning to use the attitudes and skills that Jesus did during His life on earth is a smart thing to do.

Unprocessed emotional pain is not only the cause of depression, it is the root of all addictions.

"I lived over forty-five years of my life in growing depression without any understanding of how depression occurred. I was clueless about the fact that depression is self-induced. The results of my own self-induced depression were sleepless nights, the loss of valued blessings, growing despair that led to addictions and eventually the loss of my freedom. If God had not answered my desperate prayer I would have most likely lost my life and probably my soul. I’m working on the second decade of living depression free. Not only is life possible without depression it is greatly improved."
