Blockers

A blocker can be anything that hinders the learning process. It can be as simple as not having enough time to master the four steps of pain removal to deep seated fear issues that are shrouded in secrecy. It is important to discover and work to remove all blockers.

Not having enough time to master the steps can be overcome simply by budgeting time to practice and study. Overcoming fear issues requires a greater effort. The fear of failure is common to pain carriers who have made several unsuccessful attempts to stop destructive behaviors. They may feel they cannot handle another failure. A reasonable amount of time and effort in a program that is not bound by the demands of time increases the likelihood of success.

Other fear blockers may require a step of faith. The fear of giving up a much needed behavior is an example of a blocker that requires a step of faith to remove. The seriously addicted cannot visualize life without their much needed escape behavior. The step of faith is accepting the fact that not only will life be possible without the behavior, it will be greatly improved.

The fear of not being accepted by an individual or a group, the fear of exposing hidden behaviors or any other fear based issue should be taken seriously. If help is needed to remove a blocker, ask for help from someone who is spiritual and has your best interest at heart. Blockers, great or small, real or imagined, hinder the learning process.

"I had my share of blockers. My blockers were all fear based and I had them all.  The fear of life without escape behaviors loomed as a mountain before me. The fear of exposure was a vicious dragon that demanded to be protected and fed.  The fear of not being accepted by the people I loved hung over me like a dark cloud. It was hard for me to break through the blockers. Prayer helped, and so did encouragement from others who were likeminded. Having good instructors helped me too. Whatever it takes to remove blockers is worth it."
